PUNE: A 35-year-old tailor, sacked from job barely a week ago, set ablaze his former employer in the latter’s shop in Wadgaonsheri around 11.30pm on Monday and both succumbed to injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Chandannagar police said the sacked tailor, Milind Govindrao Nathsagar (35), poured petrol on the shopowner, Bala Noya Joning (32), and set her on fire using a lighter in a fit of rage around 11.30pm on Monday. But Joining, from Odisha, grabbed him and both were engulfed by flames.
The police said a man, primarily identified as Prathmesh, suffered serious burn injuries while trying to save them. He has been admitted to the Sassoon General Hospital. A case of murder and mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house was registered against Nathsagar on Tuesday morning.
Senior police inspector Sunil Jadhav of the Chandannagar police said, “Nathsagar, having his roots in Parbhani, was employed in Joning’s shop as a tailor. Joning had been running the women’s tailoring shop for the past eight years. We recorded her statement in the hospital and took her FIR from the hospital bed. She described the incident in detail.”
He said, “Nathsagar was unhappy with Joning because she sacked him about seven days ago. Before visiting her shop, he changed the ‘status’ of his profile on different social media sites stating that these were his last messages.”
According to Joning’s statement to the police, Nathsagar reached the tailoring shop around 11.30pm with a can filled with petrol. “He threw petrol on Joning while she was cutting a piece of cloth. He then set her ablaze using a lighter,” Jadhav said.
