PUNE: The district on Sunday recorded 94 new Covid-19 cases, 12 less than what it recorded on Saturday. There were no deaths.
But data showed a small rise in hospitalisations within PMC limits with 16 patients now in care, up from just five on June 1. Another 373 patients are currently in home isolation in the PMC areas.
Other parts of the district - Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural - have reported zero hospitalisations, with 98 and 39 patients in home isolation respectively.
Overall, the district now has 534 active cases, out of which 518 are in home isolation. This data matches the statewide trends. On Friday, officials said at least 96% of the state's active cases involve mild infection.
Dr Ashish Bharati, the PMC's health chief, said hospital infrastructure has been readied to handle a surge, if it comes. "We are keeping a close eye on cases. We are ready with beds and oxygen support," he said. He added that there are at least 100 Covid beds currently available at Naidu Hospital. This capacity can be increased to 200.
"Also, the old and new Baner hospitals have around 200 beds each. We can also use the Kamala Nehru Hospital and Dalvi Hospital if there is an increase in the number of people needing hospitalisation," he said, adding that citizens should now mask up and follow all Covid rules.
On Saturday, health minister Rajesh Tope said the state government had not yet made masks "mandatory" but appealed to citizens to cover up as a precaution when in closed spaces.
