PUNE: The MahaMetro will install barricades on roads in consultation with the city traffic police and also adopt a 'flexi barricading' policy to curb hassles that irk road users.
Huge traffic snarls were witnessed in the Parnakuti Chowk area in Yerawada recently after MahaMetro installed barricades to assist the Metro work. The barricades were then removed and rearranged to ease the traffic flow after the traffic police's intervention.
The MahaMetro officials said they would ensure that only the minimum required space is occupied on the roads for the work.
"We have instructed the contractors to utilize minimum required space on the roads. No additional barricades should be installed over the permitted stretches. Our teams will be in touch with the traffic police of respective areas while barricading to check traffic flow," said the officials.
Work related to the Metro is underway in the Khadki, Yerawada, Ahmednagar Road, Kalyaninagar and the city's central areas. Barricades installed on Karve Road and Paud Road have been removed from most stretches, barring the areas near Metro stations.
Hemant Sonawane, general manager (PR) at MahaMetro, said, "The MahaMetro has squads and QRTs to assist the traffic police. The squads work in three shifts round-the-clock. Work that requires heavy machinery is carried out during night to avoid traffic disruptions."
