Pundit 'amazed' by Leeds United process as Farke and Vieira next manager odds shift

Former England striker Chris Sutton has warned Leeds United that they 'need to get a move on' as their search for a new head coach continues into another week. The Whites have been without a manager since Sam Allardyce's exit was confirmed earlier this month and with players reporting back for pre-season duty on Sunday, the clock is ticking.

Leeds' recruitment process has been slowed down due to the ongoing 49ers Enterprises takeover, which was agreed more than two weeks ago, but is awaiting EFL confirmation. Relegation meant that the pre-agreed deal between Andrea Radrizzani and the US investment group had to be ripped up and a new price agreed after the season, which has left Leeds in something of a state of limbo in recent weeks.

While the club are confident that EFL approval should soon arrive, it has delayed the final appointment of a new head coach after interviews took place in London last week.

Talking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton outlined his worry for the club given how close we now are to the start of pre-season.

“Leeds United, I do find this amazing,” Sutton said. “They actually need a manager in right now, don’t they? The season is not that far away.

“There is recruitment to do, a new manager will come in who will like certain players, won’t like others. They need to get a move on.”

The bookmakers appear to indicate that it is a two-horse race for the Leeds job, with Daniel Farke now back in as the favourite, ahead of Patrick Vieira. As of Monday lunchtime, bet365 have the former Norwich bos as the 2/7 odds-on favourite, ahead of former Arsenal skipper Vieira at 5/2. Scott Parker is way back at 14/1.

Leeds last week confirmed that Nick Hammond will serve as an interim football advisor in order to help Leeds steer themselves though what is expected to be a very busy summer transfer window.
