Pubs across the UK may be able to extend their opening hours in honour of King Charles III's Coronation next year. The government is working on proposals that would give pub-goers the opportunity to "raise a glass" to the British monarch to mark the historic occasion.
Licensing hours will be extended from 11pm to 1am in pubs, clubs and bars in England and Wales across the bank holiday weekend from Friday, 5 May until until Sunday, 7 May, The Mirror reports. Under Section 172 of the Licensing Act 2003 , the Home Secretary has the power to make an order which relaxes licensing hours to mark occasions of "exceptional national significance".
The Government has said the extended hours would help communities come together and give a boost to the hospitality industry. Confirming the plans, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said: "His Majesty the King’s Coronation will be a historic moment that will see our great nation and the entire Commonwealth joined together in celebration.
