Public health warning issued as storm sewage discharged at popular Welsh beaches

A public health warning has been issued after sewage was discharged at a number of popular Welsh beaches. Pollution alerts are in place at another four Welsh beaches following the UK’s most recent heavy rainfall. As a result, Safer Seas & Rivers Service have advised members of the public to avoid swimming in the areas affected.

Currently, four tourist destinations between the west and north coast in Wales have received pollution alerts due to storm sewage discharged. At Barafundle bay, which is a popular destination in Pembrokeshire, the warning alert has been issued by SSRS informing the public that sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. The same warning has been issued for Wiseman's Bridge, Saundersfoot beach and Benllech beach in Anglesey
