Psychology says people who thrive in chaos may actually be seeking stimulation, not stress

For some people, a perfectly organized schedule feels reassuring. For others, it feels strangely boring. They leave decisions until the last minute, enjoy spontaneous plans, work better when deadlines are approaching and somehow seem most energized when everything is happening at once. Their desk may be messy, their calendar unpredictable and their weekends unplanned, yet they insist they function perfectly well.

Psychology suggests that what looks like “loving chaos” can have several different explanations. It may involve sensation seeking, novelty seeking, tolerance for ambiguity, reward sensitivity, perceived control or learned behavioral patterns. It does not automatically indicate poor organization or a psychological problem.
