PSV Eindhoven Levies 40-Year Stadium Ban Upon Unruly Fan

A fan who stormed the field during a Europa League match between PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla has been issued a 40-year ban from PSV’s Philips Stadium, the team announced Tuesday.

The fan interrupted play during the Feb. 23 match and attempted to punch Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic. He ended up being pinned down to the ground by Dmitrovic and eventually was escorted off the premises by security.

“The forty-year-long ban comes on top of a possible fine imposed by UEFA,” PSV said in a statement, according to CNN’s Matias Grez. “The pitch invader is currently serving a three-month sentence with one month suspended imposed by the East Brabant District Court. He is also barred from the area around the stadium for two years.”

Even before the incident, PSV said that the fan should never have been admitted into the stadium for that game, as he was already serving a stadium ban imposed by the Dutch Football Federation.

PSV won that game, 2-0, but lost the series to Sevilla, 3-2 on aggregate.
