Police Interceptor cars are being used to tackle organised shoplifting gangs operating across Ireland and Britain, the PSNI says.
And police and retail chiefs say a number of gangs, who had stolen goods worth thousands of pounds, have been caught thanks to use of the vehicles and the sharing of intelligence between officers and businesses.
The use of the vehicles has been highlighted as part of the PSNI’s ‘current focus on Business Crime. The ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) Interceptor team was formed in 2020 to ‘deny criminals the use of Northern Ireland’s road network’.
