Body recovered in search for missing Co Down man Raymond Gracey

Police have recovered the body of 55-year-old Raymond Gracey.

The Ards man, known as 'Rainbow', headed to Wetherspoons in Newtownards on Sunday morning, but did not return home to Comber.

A PSNI Facebook post on Sunday night said: "Raymond left for Wetherspoons in Ards this morning for breakfast and what we understand to be 3-4 pints. He left the bar and would normally be home by now but has not returned.

"Raymond would often walk back and forward from Ards to Comber so unable to say whether he has made it back to the town. He was wearing his normal black coat and jeans. I know Raymond is often out and about on his own but need you to let us know if there are any friends he may be with."

Coastguard and K9 Search and Rescue teams were deployed to assist in the search on Monday morning.

K9 Search and Rescue NI said: "Requested at 1140 this morning to assist in the search for a missing person in the Comber area.

"We assisted Bangor and Portaferry Coastguard Rescue Teams conduct searches, which resulted in the missing person being located.

"K9 Search and Rescue members assisted the Coastguard in a recovery operation.

"Our thoughts and prayers of with the family and friends at this time."

The PSNI statement after the discovery of Mr Gracey's body read: "The body of a man, who has been identified as 55 year old missing man Raymond Gracey, was recovered from Comber River this morning.

"A post mortem will be carried out in due course, however, at this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Mr Gracey's family have been informed and ask for privacy during this tough time."
