Calvin Stengs has become a free agent after agreeing to a mutual termination of his contract at Feyenoord.
The midfielder had been linked with a move to Celtic last summer, but instead joined Pisa on loan.
Stengs actually scored against Celtic in the Champions League for Feyenoord back in 2023, shortly after he joined the Eredivisie club from Nice in a deal worth in the region of £5m.
The 27-year-old only managed four appearances on loan last term for Pisa as he suffered a groin injury which would see him sidelined for an extended period.
He had been touted for a move to Celtic or Leicester in the summer window before his loan spell in Italy.
Now, Stengs has left Feyenoord after a final send-off in pre-season with the club. His contract had been due to run until next summer.
But the player is not clear where his next move will be, stating: "I don't yet know what the future holds".
On his departure from Feyenoord, Stengs commented: "Saying goodbye to Feyenoord is difficult, because I have felt welcomed and at home here from day one.
"From everyone at the club to the incredible supporters who are always there. To receive so much positive support from the fans again when I returned this summer and after the first pre-season friendly really meant a lot to me.
"To the supporters, thank you. You were incredible.
"Winning trophies here at Feyenoord is something I will always be proud to tell my children about.
"I don't yet know what the future holds, but this decision is the best one for both of us at this moment.
"Being able to play football is the most important thing for me now. I wish everyone at the club all the best. I have truly enjoyed my time here and hope to see you all again someday."
