PS5: The best games from the first five years of the PlayStation 5

PS5

Five years have already passed since the PlayStation 5 arrived in households, and in that time, it has become one of the major stars of digital entertainment. Its power, its sensation-filled controller, and a catalog that has never stopped growing have defined a very particular stage within the video game industry.

Technical milestones and new ways to play

When the PS5 reached store shelves in November 2020, it did so with several promises in hand: load times that practically disappeared, audio capable of placing every detail around the player, and a controller that felt less like an accessory and more like an extension of the experience.

This combination of innovations allowed games to feel different from the very first minute. Worlds became more detailed, transitions between areas smoother, and immersion deeper. Even genres that seemed to have done everything found new ways to surprise. The console had its ups and downs in terms of availability and the variety of releases in the early months, but the titles that truly shone clearly demonstrated what the generation was capable of.

The essential standouts of these five years

Over this period, the catalog has offered true gems, each special in its own way. Within the wide range of releases, some have become essential thanks to how they combined story, technology, and creativity.

One of the first major exclusives was Demon’s Souls Remake, a game that arrived to show what the console’s hardware could really do. Its visual reconstruction touched photorealism, and its fluidity made every battle more intense than ever. It was one of the first games to clearly showcase that generational leap.

Shortly after, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart made it clear that real-time dimension shifting was a perfect example of how the console allowed for situations that were previously impossible. The game breathed color, fun, and constant rhythm, placing it among the platform’s very best.

Another of the major names in the catalog is Horizon Forbidden West. Although it also appeared on PS4, its PS5 version featured more lush landscapes, more detailed machines, and a scale that made every exploration unique. Through its combat, story, and the overall beauty of its world, it cemented itself as one of the console’s most representative options.

We cannot forget God of War Ragnarök, a game that continued the path set by its predecessor, elevating its combat, narrative, and presentation to a higher level. The use of 3D audio, adaptive triggers, and visual effects created the sensation of experiencing a blockbuster that left no detail to chance. It was one of those releases that reminded everyone why PlayStation exclusives tend to dominate headlines.

In the platforming realm, Astro Bot won over almost everyone. This small robot proved that a video game can be charming, clever, and spectacular without exaggerating its proposal. Its way of leveraging the DualSense made it both a celebration of the console and a tribute to the PlayStation universe.

Finally, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 confirmed that the wall-crawler’s adventures had become a flagship for the platform. The agility of movement, the new powers, the scale of the city, and the story made the experience even more impactful than its predecessor. Many consider it one of the most complete adventures of these first years.

Digital entertainment inside and outside the console

Throughout this journey, it is interesting to observe how digital entertainment has diversified. While the PS5 offered vast worlds and unforgettable adventures, many users also found moments of enjoyment on other types of platforms. The rise of online casinos integrated naturally into this ecosystem where videogames, streaming services, and various apps coexist. These options offer immediacy, interaction, and a different style of leisure that coexists seamlessly with the major PS5 productions, completing a much broader digital landscape.

What makes these games so special

Beyond their name or fame, these titles share a series of elements that explain why they have become the console’s major representatives. Each one managed to adapt to PlayStation 5 technology without settling for a simple graphical leap. Their worlds, characters, and mechanics were carefully crafted in every aspect, maintaining a balance between creativity and technical power that not all games of the generation have been able to achieve.
