With PlayStation promising to show off new games and IP at this week’s digital showcase, there’s also a fair chance subscribers might learn what the June PS Plus lineup is early.
Later this week, on Wednesday, May 24, to be exact, players with a PS5 and PSVR 2 will want to play close attention to what PlayStation is set to show as part of its big summer showcase. We already know as per the announcement post on the PlayStation Blog that the event will reveal “several new creations from PlayStation Studios”. But if past precedent is anything to go by, there’s also a fair chance we could also see the June PS Plus lineup announced early here too.
Of course, the date of this week’s PlayStation Showcase May 2023 event isn’t technically the last Wednesday of the month (the time when the following month’s PS Plus lineup is typically revealed) yet with all eyes on PlayStation it makes a lot of sense to mention it here. Not forgetting that during the PlayStation State of Play February 2023 livestream, in which Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League played a huge focus, the PS Plus March 2023 lineup was revealed to be Battlefield 2042, Minecraft Dungeons and Code Vein.
When could the PS Plus June 2023 lineup be revealed early?
If the June PS Plus lineup does get revealed during the PlayStation Showcase, it’ll likely happen some time during the livestream on Wednesday, May 24 at 9pm BST / 4pm EDT / 1pm PDT. Again it isn’t an absolute guarantee that next month’s PS Plus Essential lineup will be revealed, but there has been past precedent and it would be a good time to inform PlayStation devotees watching the stream.
The PlayStation Showcase isn’t a traditional State of Play, running for much longer at “a bit over an hour”. However, there’s just as much chance this Wednesday as there was back in February that PlayStation will dedicate a bit of time to reveal the June PS Plus lineup, which typically consists of three titles: one for PS5 and two for PS4. Some PSVR games have been included in the past, but with PSVR 2 being so new and first-party games limited it’s unlikely one will feature in June.
Nothing has leaked so far as to what games the June PS Plus lineup might consist of. The PS Plus Essential May 2023 titles comprise of Chivalry 2 (PS4/PS5), GRID Legends (PS4/PS5) and Descenders (PS4), remaining claimable for subscribers up until Tuesday, June 6. That same date is when next month’s PS Plus lineup will go live, so here’s hoping that we’ll get word on what these will be a week earlier than usual during the PlayStation Showcase this Wednesday. Bloodborne remaster, anyone?
