PS Plus February 2023: free games lineup includes a groovy treat for subscribers

From Tuesday, February 7, PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will be able to add OlliOlli World, Evil Dead: The Game, Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Mafia: Definite Edition to their collection.

Sony has revealed the PS Plus February 2023 lineup, which includes all of the free games listed in the PS Plus leak earlier this week. Subscribers are in for a treat this month, with free access to the Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion, as well as both the PS4 and PS5 versions of asymmetrical multiplayer horror title, Evil Dead: The Game. Perfect timing, as the title has just added a 40-player battle royale mode – dubbed Splatter Royale – this week.

Evil Dead: The Game features classic characters from the Sam Raimi franchise like Ash Williams (Evil Dead 2 version), Ash Williams (Army of Darkness version) or even Ash Williams (Ash Vs Evil Dead Version). There are also characters from the 2013 Evil Dead reboot, that I was too scared to watch because of that box cutter scene in the trailer – you know the one. I love the original trilogy, so I’m excited to give this a go for the fan service alone; even if it’s one the ever-growing pile of Dead By Daylight-style horror games. Hopefully Splatter Royale is enough to set it apart from the rest. Also included is 2022’s indie darling OlliOlli World.

The PlayStation blog announced that PS Plus subscribers will be receiving the Beyond Light expansion for Bungie’s now free-to-play shooter Destiny 2, as an extra treat on top of the usual three game lineup. While Destiny 2 die-hards have likely blasted through the 2020 expansion already, this freebie offers a little extra incentive for PS Plus subscribers to pick up the title and fall into the loot-hole. Who knows, maybe you’ll have the time to catch up before Destiny 2's upcoming expansion, Lightfall launches on February 28.

Rounding out the offering this month is 2K’s open-world crime remake Mafia: Definitive Edition. You'll find yourself embroiled in all of the criminal activity you'd expect from a game titled Mafia, while exploring a fictionalised 1930’s Illinois. The original Mafia on PC was a banger back in the day, so I’m excited to jump on this remake of the 2002 game.

PS Plus February 2023 free games

Here's the full list of games heading to PS Plus Essential this month:

  • OlliOlli World (PS5 / PS4)

  • Evil Dead: The Game (PS5 / PS4)

  • Mafia: Definitive Edition (PS4)

  • Destiny 2: Beyond Light (PS5 / PS4) – requires Destiny 2 to play

PS Plus members have until Monday, February 6 to add the free games from the PS Plus January 2023 selection to their library. That includes Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Tucked away in the PS Plus February reveal was also the disappointing news that the titles in the PS Plus Collection are being removed. These have been on offer for subscribers on PS5 since the systems launch in 2020. They'll no longer be available to redeem after May 9, 2023, so make sure you add them to your library before then.
