North Lanarkshire’s Provost has voiced his disgust after leaflets promoting white supremacy were delivered to homes in and around Wishaw.
The flyers were delivered to doors around Wishaw last week promoting the Free Europa group, a UK based organisation that design and deliver leaflets that promote against what they claim are dystopian hate speech laws.
One leaflet posted through doors claims “Your grandchildren will become an minority in their own country by 2066” attributed to David Coleman, a former Oxford Professor who is an advisor to the pressure group Migration Watch UK, which campaigns for reduced immigration into the UK.
Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig Labour councillor, and the local authority’s Provost, Kenneth Duffy, said: “I was sent these vile leaflets by a concerned member of the public.
“It’s vital that every resident knows that racism has no place in our area, or modern society, and hate speech is never acceptable.
"It is aimed at dividing our communities and turning us against each other.
“Our area is wonderfully diverse with an inclusive spirit, and we know most people will be appalled at receiving this type of bigotry through their doors.
“We face a lot of challenges as a society, not least the cost of living crisis, and this sort of propaganda is a distraction from the real action we need to see in our town.”
Posters on the Free Europa website claim that “diversity is code for white genocide” and that the white race is facing extinction.
In 2017, politicians on all parties united to slam the far-right Scottish Defence League after they held a march in Wishaw town centre.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of a leaflet in circulation in the Wishaw area which has caused some concern locally.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
