- The general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), Pepe Di’Iasio, is set to voice concerns that students and families are living in fear of racial harassment and violence amid "provocative nationalism."
- An ASCL survey found that over a third (36%) of school and college leaders reported students or teachers experiencing racial harassment during their commutes to and from school.
- The survey also highlighted that 38% of leaders said their students and staff were worried about racial harassment or attack, with 11% reporting physical attacks on the way to or from school.
- Mr Di’Iasio is expected to criticise politicians' rhetoric on immigration and the divisive role of social media, urging for more careful language and stronger regulation of online platforms.
- Despite the government's social cohesion strategy, MPs recently rejected an amendment to ban social media for under-16s, even though most heads (90%) believe stronger regulation could address racist attitudes.
