Protesters in the Russian-backed breakaway region of Abkhazia made headlines on Friday as they stormed the parliament building in the capital city of Sukhumi. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of the self-styled president due to an unpopular investment agreement with Moscow.
The protesters used a truck to breach the metal gates surrounding the parliament, gaining access to the building. Videos from the scene depicted individuals climbing through windows, removing metal bars, and chanting in the corridors. Opposition leader Eshsou Kakalia stated that the parliament was under the control of the protesters and announced plans to seek the president's resignation.
