Protest in Mysuru seeking Eshwarappa’s arrest

·

Volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Mysuru district unit, led by district president Malavika Gubbivani on Wednesday staged a demonstration here demanding the immediate arrest of Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj K.S. Eshwarappa in connection with the case pertaining to the death of contractor Santosh Patil.

The volunteers staged a peaceful protest raising slogans against the BJP government and the Minister. They later submitted a memorandum, addressed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, through the Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautham, demanding the Minister’s removal from the Cabinet.

Addressing the protestors, M.s Malavika said the BJP did not act on the allegations made by the deceased contractor over a year ago. “The Centre too did not act on the letter written to the Prime Minister by one Mr. Kempanna of the Contractors’ Association,” she argued.

“Since Mr. Eshwarappa is an influential politician, he may tamper with the evidence and therefore he must be arrested immediately. It will send a wrong signal to people in the State if no action is taken in the case,” she stated.

Ms. Gubbivani, in a press release, said that the people will lose faith in the government if it is ‘harassing’ the very people whom it is supposed to safeguard.

AAP Media Coordinator G.R. Vidyaranya, Women’s Wing president Usha Sampathkumar, Organising Secretary Renukaprasad, Youth Wing president Ismail, Ravichandra, Rangaiah, Girish Machalli and others were present during the protest.
