A protest calling for a change of Government has been announced for the same day that Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar swap positions.
The Cabinet reshuffle will take place on Saturday December 17 as the coalition reaches the halfway mark.
The Cost of Living coalition has now announced that it will hold a protest outside Leinster House at the same time as the switchover is taking place.
The Cost of Living Coalition, a coalition of over 30 organisations, has claimed that the changeover will “lead to no fundamental change in government policy”.
“Households are reeling from the Cost of Living and Housing Crisis,” a spokesperson said.
“Many will struggle through the Christmas period.”
They continued: “The Cost of Living Crisis has got worse. Inflation is at its highest level since 1984. It will continue into next year when inflation is predicted to be at least 7%.
“The public must let the government know that real action is still needed to control prices and protect incomes.”
The group also claimed that the Government has “failed to inflation-proof incomes”.
The Government will meet in Leinster House on Saturday December 17 as the Taoiseach’s office switches to Leo Varadkar.
TDs have been warned that a long day could be in store as the proceedings could run into the late evening.
