Pros and cons of Veganuary according to Instagram chef

As January has arrived, so has Veganuary, the month that is dedicated to following a vegan lifestyle. Lauren McLoughlin, 25, originally from Merseyside, decided to become vegan after suffering from bloating and bad skin, among many other things that happened to her after she consumed dairy products.

She began to educate herself on the effects of dairy and felt ‘disgusted’ when she thought about what she was actually consuming, from “baby cow hormone (milk) to chicken menstruation (eggs)”. She has since set up her own Instagram account showcasing her own vegan recipes that she creates. Such as sesame ramen with crispy tofu, red lentil dhal with coriander rice and vegan saag paneer.

Veganism is a plant-based diet that avoids all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey. As well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and even places that use animals for entertainment.
