Property prices: What you can get for £250k in Nottingham compared to other parts of the UK

If you've ever considered moving to the coast, the City or perhaps the highlands, you may have wondered what your money might buy.

Up and down the country property prices vary wildly and it's often fun to see just how far your money will stretch, so we've done the legwork for you.

From Cornish cottages to swanky city pads, take a look and see where you could be living or if you'd prefer to stay rooted in the Nottingham and the county.

So just what could you buy here for that amount of money compared to other parts of the country.

To start us off, we've gone with what you could buy for the average Nottingham house price.

While many organisations have different ways of working out average house prices in an area, both Rightmove and Zoopla agree that the average for Nottingham and its county sits somewhere between £240,000 and £250,000.

A quick look at Nottingham homes that you could buy for exactly £250,000 will show sizable 2-bed detached bungalows in either Woodthorpe or Mapperley, and a three-bed semi detached house in Sherwood, for instance.

In comparison, if you head straight to the Capital, what you’ll get in London for your £250,000 is quite reduced.

For instance, there's a studio in Woburn Place, Russell Square WC1H listed on Zoopla for that price. It is for sale with Purple Bricks.

If you are drawn to the coast however, you could be be settling into a one-bed apartment in Newquay, or, if Cornwall is your location of choice, perhaps a two-bed cottage further inland in Redruth.

David Ball Agencies is selling a brand new one-bed flat. It is just 120m from the beach in Newquay and the selling agent says that it is ideal as a summer retreat or rental.

If Blackpool is your happy place then, in terms of value for money, you could be even happier. Property here over the past year sold for an average of £141,587 according to Zoopla.

And if you fancy a change of career, then there's a six-bed semi as well as a seven-bed property, both of which are for sale for £250,000 each and ideal as a buy to let opportunity as they're currently separated into self-contained flats.

Both are in Withnell Road, Blackpool and so less than half a mile from Blackpool Pleasure Beach and a three-minute walk from the South Pier and Promenade.

Wales is another location offering value for money. Of course there are huge variations across the country but as a whole, average property price stood at £218,438 over the past year.

If you are looking at spending £250,000 in Holywell, for instance, you could buy a three-bed town house is an historic building in Holywell.

Alternatively, in Rossett, Wrexham, you could by a three-bed semi is Station Road. This one is, however, going to auction with Fisher German so it might eventually sell for more. The auction takes place on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at noon.
