Property development firm staff volunteer for the day at Lanarkshire hospice

Generous staff from a property development company got their hands dirty and brought vivid colour to St Andrew's Hospice as they volunteered at the Airdrie charity for the day.

Barratt West Scotland's commercial department split into two separate teams to carry out gardening maintenance and fence painting at the hospice's Henderson Street base.

Both teams were extremely fortunate with the weather as the sun shone down on them, and the hard workers managed to weed the whole garden area and paint the perimeter fence.

Barratt Developments PLC supports employees who wish to carry out volunteer work within the local community, or for charitable institutions, and since 2016, the company's special leave policy allows employees to take one day of paid leave per year for volunteer work, which increased to two days per rolling year in 2022.

David Guthrie, commercial director, told Lanarkshire Live : "I am extremely proud of my team and the work they have carried out for St Andrew's Hospice.

"The hospice is currently running its Thanksgiving Thistle Appeal, which Barratt West Scotland are also supporting by donating £1000 from our Monthly Community Fund.

"There will be a special service taking place in the gardens of the hospice and the work carried out by my team will ensure the garden is looking its best."
