Projectile from US-Israeli strike hits near Iran’s only functioning nuclear facility in Bushehr

A projectile struck near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant on Saturday, killing a security staff member and damaging a nearby building, in the latest attack on the country’s only functioning nuclear facility

Reuters citing Tasnim news agency said, the projectile hit the perimeter of the plant, causing damage to a structure close to the site. The report said the main facilities were not affected and electricity production continued without disruption.

The incident marks the fourth time the Bushehr site has been targeted since the conflict began, with multiple projectiles reported to have landed in the surrounding area earlier this month.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed it had been informed by Iran about a projectile striking close to the plant premises.

In a post on X, the agency said one member of the site’s physical protection staff was killed by a projectile fragment, while a building sustained damage from shockwaves and debris.

“No increase in radiation levels was reported,” the IAEA said.

Iranian authorities reiterated that the strike did not impact the plant’s core infrastructure, underscoring that operations at the Bushehr facility remain unaffected despite repeated incidents in its vicinity.
