A probe into an arson attack on ex-Rangers and Celtic star Kenny Miller has been closed by police - with no arrests.
A firebug tried to torch the former Scotland captain's top-of-the-range SUV in a late-night attack.
They doused the £70,000 Audi Q7 with an accelerant in a bid to set the vehicle alight but it's understood they were disturbed before starting the blaze.
Sources said the suspects poured a flammable liquid over the windscreen of the vehicle, leaving it damaged.
Officers from Police Scotland were called to attend after the Falkirk FC Assistant boss was targeted just after midnight on Saturday, January 8 this year.
They began investigating the terrifying incident, which took place outside a family member's flat in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.
Edinburgh-born Miller, 42, and his wife Laura, 33, were temporarily staying with his mother-in-law Elizabeth O’Donnell when the drama unfolded.
The attack took place within days of Laura giving birth to a baby girl - the couple’s third child - and just weeks after they started their own media firm.
In November they launched K&L Media Ltd, thought to be set up to channel Miller’s income from TV and radio, and both are listed as directors of the company.
The force has now revealed that the investigation into the attack has concluded - after detectives hit a brick wall.
But officers insist the probe will be reopened should any new information on the incident come to light.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers have carried out extensive enquiries into a report of an attempt to set a vehicle alight in Hamilton, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, 8 January, 2022.
"Enquiries have concluded at this time, however any new information will be investigated."
The attempted arson attack was the latest in a string of prominent figures being targeted by firestarters.
Others include his former Gers team mate Allan McGregor and ex-Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.
A source said: “Kenny had no idea why this happened, what prompted it, or who was behind it.
"The family were totally in the dark over the motive and culprit, and it looks like the police were just as stumped.
"He's always tried to keep his personal and professional lives separate.
"They had loads going on at the time with the new company, new baby and Kenny's new job.
"It's shocking and baffling, and it's unclear if we'll ever find out who was behind it and why."
Miller had a glittering career as one of Scottish football’s top strikers, enjoying three spells at Ibrox alongside stints with Celtic and Hibs.
He also played for clubs south of the border, turning out for Wolves and Derby County, and played 69 times for Scotland, scoring 18 goals.
Miller last played for Partick Thistle, hanging up his boots in 2020 and moving to Australia to take up coaching roles with Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.
But the couple, who married in 2010, returned to Scotland last year, and Miller landed the job with Scottish League One side Falkirk in December.
Sources said they were staying with Laura’s mum Elizabeth while they wait to move into a new family home.
They had sold their own property for £790,000 before moving Down Under.
