PRO-Palestine activists have vandalised the Scottish offices of a bank with ties to an Israeli arms manufacturer.
Palestine Action claimed responsibility after Allianz’s Glasgow office in Waterloo Street was daubed with red paint in protest over the company’s links with Elbit Systems.
The group said Allianz provides Employers Liability Insurance to Elbit Systems, a Haifa-based weapons company which boasts on its website that its bomber drones are the “backbone of the Israel Defense Forces”.
The building was targeted by the same group last month and activists said they followed up the vandalism with a letter to Allianz, a German bank, demanding the company sever links with the Israeli firm.
In its letter, Palestine Action said: “We ask that you do not renew your insurance of Elbit Systems UK, and do not insure the company, or any of its subsidiaries in the future. We also request that you completely divest from Elbit Systems Ltd. If you can confirm that you will cease all dealings with Elbit Systems, we will happily end our campaign against you.”
The group said it had not received a response from the firm.
Allianz, Elbit Systems and Police Scotland were approached for comment.
