The Minnesota Vikings have a limited amount of draft capital this offseason, which means that they’ll need to be smart about how they approach it. There are certain players in this draft class, though, that could make the Vikings rethink their approach.
On Wednesday, Pro Football Focus released a first-round mock draft where they had the Vikings selecting one of those players in Alabama safety Brian Branch.
I think they’d really like Brian Branch for a Brian Flores-coached defense just because that secondary is such a need for them. They have really no one on paper right now who can play the slot for you, and obviously, value-wise, it makes the most sense here.
Branch would be an incredible hybrid player for the Vikings who new defensive coordinator Brian Flores could easily maximize to his full potential. Branch has the range and versatility to step in and help the Vikings all across the secondary. Pairing him with last year’s first-round pick Lewis Cine could give the Vikings a great tandem for years to come.
