An army veteran who was in a “dark place” after leaving the forces wants to offer other ex-soldiers a “second chance at life”.
Luke Nevin, 27, became an Infantry rifleman after leaving school at 16 and served in Kenya before quitting the army at 22. Upon leaving, Luke was confronted by the staggering lack of emotional support afforded to veterans, and started on a downward spiral which saw him twice try to take his own life.
He told the ECHO : “The manner in which you’re treated when you leave the army is shocking but, for me, it was more my decisions when I left the army that caused my mental health to deteriorate. Joining the army I was a kid; I had no life experience and my whole life was the army.
