Priyanka Chopra joked about expecting a baby with husband Nick Jonas months before their surprise surrogate child.
The 38-year-old actress wed musician-turned-actor Nick in December 2018 after less than a year of dating, and they announced the heartwarming news they had become a family of three in matching Instagram posts earlier this week.
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family,” the couple wrote in posts on their respective social media accounts.
The couple were the subject of speculation in recent weeks, as it was reported they were heading for divorce, and they shocked fans by going public with their baby news.
But in fact, Priyanka had dropped a huge hint she and Nick were to become parents for the first time back in November.
She took to the stage as part of the one-hour Netflix comedy special, Jonas Brothers Family Roast, which aired on 23 November.
During her routine, Priyanka joked they were “expecting”, and teased the audience by suggesting she was making a big pregnancy announcement.
“We are the only couple who doesn't have kids yet. Which is why I'm excited to make this announcement...Sorry babe…” she said, before taking a long pause.
“Nick and I are expecting...to get drunk tonight and sleep in tomorrow,” Priyanka quipped, prompting her worried husband to breathe a sigh of relief.
Nick’s big brother Kevin was the first of the Jonas brothers to start a family, and he and wife Danielle are parents to two girls - Alena, 7, and Valentina, 5.
And Joe Jonas and wife Sophie Turner welcomed daughter Willa in July 2020.
At the time of filming the comedy special, the couple would have already known they were due to become parents, and were keeping the news a secret.
Priyanka and Nick celebrated their third wedding anniversary in December, and dismissed rumours of a reported break-up by sharing the news they had become parents.
They didn’t share the name of sex of the baby in their identical posts, but it's been reported the newborn is a girl.
The couple have previously spoken about their desire to have a family, and in January last year, Priyanka spoke with E! News about her plans to have a “cricket team” of kids.
“Family is a big part of my life. It's always been a part of my dreams,” she shared.
