Prison officer jailed after hitting prisoner so hard he broke his own hand

A prison correctional officer who punched an inmate so hard that he broke his own hand has been sentenced to jail for 18 months. The defenceless prisoner was sitting in his cell when Jack Kerrison carried out an unprovoked attack on him, hitting him with both fists which led to a head injury that required medical attention.

He charged into the cell and told the prisoner he was a ''cheeky little c***'' before assaulting him, Liverpool Echo reports. Hull Crown Court heard that Kerrison, 27 later tried to spin a web of lies, bringing other prison officers into the situation to back him up in a bid to cover up the attack.

On June, 16 last year he admitted to abusing his power as an officer when he assaulted the prisoner, causing the victim an injury. A charge of perverting the course of justice was dropped but the details of it formed part of the case, Hull Live reports.
