A prison officer has appeared in court charged with smuggling drugs into jail.
Peter Hughes, 32, of Linwood Road, Tranmere, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a first hearing. He has been charged with being a prison officer who wilfully neglected to perform his duty or wilfully misconducted himself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by conveying prohibited articles into prison, on March 25, 2020.
He was also charged with three counts relating to possession with intent to supply Class C drugs testosterone, trenbolone, and boldenone, on March 28, 2020. The fifth charge is one count of bringing, throwing or conveying Class C drugs in or out of prison at HMP Liverpool on March 25, 2020. No plea indication was given and the case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court.
He will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 29.
