A prison guard at HMP Wandsworth who was recorded having sex with an inmate is facing jail after admitting misconduct in public office.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, was seen in the viral video performing a sexual act in a prison cell within the category B men’s prison, where she was employed as a guard.
She had previously indicated an intention to fight the criminal charge, claiming she had engaged in the sexual acts due to “duress”.
But at Isleworth crown court on Monday, she pleaded guilty to the charge of misconduct in public office.
De Sousa Abreu, who holds a Portuguese passport, was arrested at Heathrow airport as she attempted to board a flight to Madrid.
On her way to the airport, De Sousa Abreu called the prison by phone to say that she was not returning to work and that her husband would return her equipment.
She was initially held in custody before being granted bail earlier this month at Uxbridge magistrates court. De Sousa Abreu, who is married and lives in Fulham, was filmed as she engaged in a sexual act with a prisoner inside one of the jail’s cells on June 27.
The video went viral online, with De Sousa’s face and uniform clearly visible.
After her arrest, it was revealed De Sousa Abreu has a secret sideline as an OnlyFans model, and wrote online: "I am a happily married sexy Latina who wants to share hot content with you.
"Experience my real life, real love, real sex and real orgasms! We believe in authenticity.”
She has admitted “wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell”.
After her arrest, the Metropolitan Police said: “A police investigation was launched on June 28 after officers were made aware of a video filmed inside HMP Wandsworth.
“A woman was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office later that day.”
A Prison Service spokesman said: “Staff corruption is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police.”
After the guilty plea, Tetteh Turkson, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “This was a shocking breach of the public’s trust. De Sousa was clearly an enthusiastic participant who wrongly thought she would avoid responsibility.
“The CPS recognises there is no excuse for any prison officer who conducts themselves in such a manner, and we will never hesitate to prosecute those who abuse their position of power.
“After working closely with the Metropolitan Police to build the strongest possible case, De Sousa had no option but accept she was guilty. She will now rightly face the consequences of her actions.”
De Sousa Abreu, of Lillie Road in Fulham, is due to be sentenced on November 7.
