Pringles enters race to be Christmas Number One

Pringles has entered the Christmas number one race with a novelty version of an iconic carol - that's so catchy Diversity star Perri Kiely has even performed his own lip-sync to it on TikTok.

The crisp manufacturer has released The Pringles Single - a high-octane version of festive favourite Carol of the Bells - as their bid for the coveted number one spot.

And it seems that the old adage of 'once you pop, you can't stop' applies even to the manufacturer's music as the catchy electropop track has caught the ear of Perri Kiely.

The 26-year-old dancer burst onto the scene in 2009 after he scooped the Britain's Got Talent crown with British street dance troupe Diversity.

Perri proves he's still got the moves after sharing a TikTok video shows him miming into a Pringles can and busting some eye-popping moves.

The 23-second clip shows Perri, sporting a casual hoodie, tracksuit bottoms and trainers, merrily miming along into a Pringles can mic and bouncing around in front of an adoring crowd.

The crisp manufacturer hopes their tune proves as popular as their iconic snack, as it's revealed a whopping 24.5million cans of Pringles are sold in December alone - equal to 550 cans a minute.

In the battle of the flavours, sour cream and onion reigns supreme as the top-selling flavour in December.

Research from Pringles reveals that more than a quarter (27%) of Brits are planning their biggest celebration since COVID restrictions came into force.

Of the 2,000 people quizzed, music and munching are among Brits’ top-five favourite festive pastimes.

Almost three-quarters (72%) of people said making the house look festive was their favourite Christmas activity, closely followed by more than two-thirds (69%) who rated enjoying drinks with friends and family.

Festive films were noted by 64% of people as a fun past-time followed by snacking with friends and family and listening to Christmas songs that were both highly rated by 58% of respondents.

But it won't be plain sailing in the race to Christmas No 1, as research reveals that Brits’ favourite Christmas song for 2022 is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.

Despite Mariah Carey starting Christmas early this year, she failed to make Brits’ top five favourite Christmas songs of 2022.

In second place was Last Christmas by Wham!, followed by Driving home for Christmas by Chris Rea in third.

Snatching the fourth spot was Bing Crosby's White Christmas followed by Michael Bublé's It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Aisling O'Hara, Pringles marketing manager, said: "This festive season should get Brits back in the swing of celebrations following two years of restrictions.

"Since this December looks set to top the charts in terms of fun and excitement, we thought we would top the charts too with our very own song - the Pringles Single."

The song, with vocals from Luna Morgenstern and a Welsh choir, delivers an unexpected upgrade to the well-known carol, Carol of the Bells and features mind-popping sounds synonymous with festive celebrations.
