Princess of Wales plays piano in surprise Eurovision appearance

Royal fans were left delighted after the Princess of Wales made an appearance in the opening montage of Eurovision.

Kate was shown playing a short piece on the piano for around 10 seconds in footage recorded from Windsor Castle.

The princess was included in an opening montage which also featured last year’s Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra and runner-up Sam Ryder.

The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest kicked off in Liverpool with a skit featuring Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra performing their hit Stefania with Sam Ryder on the top of the Liver Building.

Twenty-six acts will perform at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool to an expected global audience of 160 million viewers, according to the BBC.

The city is hosting on behalf of war-torn Ukraine, who won last year’s contest but are unable to host due to the Russian invasion.

The princess, who has grade three piano and grade five theory, previously accompanied pop star Tom Walker on piano while he sang his previously unheard Christmas song For Those Who Can’t Be Here during a carol service she hosted at Westminster Abbey in 2021.

The service, which was broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve that year, paid tribute to the work of “inspirational” people who served their communities during the pandemic.

Walker later revealed the duet left his mother in “floods of tears”.
