Princess Eugenie announces she has given birth to a baby boy

Princess Eugenie has announced that she gave birth to a boy named Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank last month.

Writing on Instagram alongside a picture of the newborn, Eugenie confirmed her second child with husband Jack Brooksbank had been born on May 30.

“He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald,” she said.

“Augie is loving being a big brother already.”

Ernest has arrived in the King’s coronation year, just weeks after the ceremony.

He is the first of Elizabeth II’s great-grandchildren to be born since her death last September.

The newest member of the royal family, whose title is Master Brooksbank, is 13th in line to the throne, moving the Duke of Edinburgh down to 14th place.

Eugenie had shared a photo of August kissing her baby bump in January to announce the news of her pregnancy.

Last month, a heavily pregnant Eugenie joined the Windsors to witness her uncle Charles’s coronation in Westminster Abbey, with Mr Brooksbank seated next to the Duke of Sussex in the third row.

A day after the event, she joined sister Princess Beatrice on Chalfont St Giles’ village green in Buckinghamshire for the Coronation Big Lunch.

Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank’s first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born on February 9, 2021 at the Portland Hospital in central London.

August falls after Eugenie and before the Earl of Wessex in the line of succession. Edward, who was third in line when he was born in 1964, is currently in 12th place. He is not entitled to use an HRH style, nor to have a title.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year, Eugenie said that becoming a mother had encouraged her to be more environmentally conscious.

She said: “I think also as a mother, you all of a sudden, totally you change, your hormones change, everything changes.

“Like now I'm scared of flying and things like that and I would never be before.”
