Princess Charlotte enjoyed some playful fisticuffs with Mia Tindall as the royals joined together to watch Trooping the Colour today.
The two girls were seen having a fun moment before the Duchess of Cambridge stepped in to restore order as they watched the military parade at Horse Guards Parade for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Mia is the daughter of the Queen's granddaughter Zara Tindall and she and Charlotte have been seen together at royal events in the past.
Afterwards, Charlotte could be seen standing with her younger brother Prince Louis as he made a salute, while Princess Beatrice was also on hand to point out what was happening.
It came after cheers went up from thousands of spectators on The Mall as they caught sight of Prince George, Charlotte and Louis with proud parent Kate and the Duchess of Cornwall in a carriage.
The traditional carriage procession left Buckingham Palace ahead of Trooping the Colour, also known as the Birthday Parade – the start of four days of festivities honouring the Queen.
The young Cambridges and the duchesses’ carriage, known as a barouche, was followed by another carrying the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn.
George, eight, Charlotte, seven, and four-year-old Louis smiled and waved enthusiastically as they sat in a row, with Louis the youngest in the middle of his older siblings. At one point, Charlotte took charge and pushed Louis’s hand down as he continued waving.
After the Cambridge youngsters appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony, where Louis stole the show with his brilliant facial expressions during the RAF flypast.
Later today, more than 3,000 beacons will be set ablaze across the UK and the Commonwealth in tribute to the Queen, who will lead the lighting of the principal Jubilee beacon in a special ceremony at Windsor Castle that evening.
Prince William will be at Buckingham Palace for this event, where a beacon is also been lit.
Tomorrow, there will be no ceremonial journey to the service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral for the Queen who has mobility problems, and the monarch, if she attends, will use a different entrance rather than scaling the steep steps.
And the Queen’s planned visit to Epsom for the Derby on Saturday is off, with members of the royal family attending the race meeting on her behalf.
Saturday is also the first birthday of Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet, and there is speculation the Queen will get to meet her namesake for the first time and possibly attend her christening.
In the evening, the BBC’s Party at the Palace – set on three stages in front of Buckingham Palace – will entertain a live crowd of 22,000 people and a television audience of millions.
The line-up includes Diana Ross, Queen + Adam Lambert, Alicia Keys, Nile Rodgers, Andrea Bocelli, Duran Duran, Bond composer Hans Zimmer, Ella Eyre, Craig David, Mabel, Elbow and George Ezra.
Charles and William are preparing to deliver public tributes at the concert to the Queen, who is due to be watching on television from Windsor.
