Princess Charlene Wears Custom Elie Saab to the 2026 Monaco Red Cross Ball

Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the 77th Monaco Red Cross Ball on July 18 in a custom champagne-gold Elie Saab gown. Defined by an asymmetric halter neckline, controlled draping and a floor-length skirt, the design brought a restrained approach to royal eveningwear at the Salle des Étoiles in Sporting Monte-Carlo.

The metallic gown wrapped around the neck before crossing diagonally over the bodice. Draping and pleating continued through the waist, where the fabric gathered before opening into a longer skirt and train.

That construction gave the dress its movement. The bodice remained fitted and controlled, while the lower half fell more fluidly from the waist. The effect was polished without relying on heavy surface decoration.

The neckline appeared different depending on the angle. From the front, it read as a wrapped halter with an asymmetric bodice. From the side, the draping created the impression of a one-shoulder column. The gown's classical proportions also gave it a subtle Grecian quality, particularly through the scarf-like fabric around the neck and the long, uninterrupted line of the skirt.

Princess Charlene carried a shimmering gold clutch by Elie Saab. Her earrings were from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen and were made in 18-karat gold with morganite, green tourmaline and diamonds.

The jewelry remained within the gown's warm palette without matching it exactly. The soft pink of the morganite and the flashes of green introduced color close to the face, while the gold setting connected with the champagne tone of the dress.

Her blonde hair was arranged in polished, vintage-inspired waves. The hairstyle added an Old Hollywood reference to the otherwise modern, minimal ensemble and worked well with the formal setting of the gala.

Elie Saab has become a recurring choice in Princess Charlene's recent evening wardrobe. She also wore the Lebanese designer for the 2025 Monaco Red Cross Ball and the Rose Ball in March 2026.

The latest gown continued that direction. Rather than using bright color or strong contrast, the look depended on sculptural draping, a tonal palette and the behavior of the fabric. The metallic surface caught the light, but the dress was not dominated by sequins, crystals or visible embroidery.

Princess Charlene has worn a wide range of designers to the Monaco Red Cross Ball over the years, including Louis Vuitton, Marchesa and Versace. Those appearances have included stronger color and more structured silhouettes. Her recent Elie Saab choices have been quieter, with an emphasis on long lines, fluid construction and monochromatic dressing.

The Monaco Red Cross Ball was established in 1948 by Prince Rainier III. Grace Kelly later presided over the event from 1958 until her death in 1982, helping turn it into one of Monaco's most closely watched annual occasions.

Prince Albert II now serves as president of the Monaco Red Cross, while Princess Charlene is its vice president. The couple opened the 2026 gala and were joined by Camille Gottlieb, the daughter of Princess Stéphanie and granddaughter of Grace Kelly.

Held at the Salle des Étoiles, the evening included a dinner prepared by three-Michelin-starred chef Marcel Ravin. The event remains both a fundraiser and a major fixture on Monaco's social calendar, bringing together royal duty, philanthropy and formal fashion.

Elie Saab's eveningwear is particularly well suited to that setting. The house is known for floor-length gowns, controlled glamour and custom designs that maintain their impact without overwhelming the person wearing them.

For a royal appearance, that balance matters. The clothing must hold up through an evening of greetings, formal photographs and public attention while remaining appropriate to the charitable purpose of the event.

Princess Charlene's gown met those requirements through construction rather than excess. The wrapped neckline created a strong focal point, while the gathered waist and flowing skirt gave the dress movement from different angles.

The final effect was measured and precise. Instead of competing with the ceremony around her, Princess Charlene used draping, metallic fabric and carefully chosen jewelry to create a formal look that felt distinctive without becoming theatrical.
