Princess Anne visits Coronation Street over ITV soap's harrowing new acid attack storyline

Princess Anne has visited the Coronation Street set and met with a cast members from the ITV soap, as details emerged of a new harrowing acid attack storyline.

he Princess Royal, Patron of The Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), who have been advising the programme’s producers and writers., viewed some upcoming scenes before meeting with producer Iain MacLeod, cast members Charlotte Jordan, Ryan Prescott, Andrew Still, Rob Mallard and Sally Ann Matthews.

Coromation Street's acid attack will see Charlotte's character Daisy targeted by her stalker, Justin, who is convinced he is in a relationship with her. Viewers will see Justin will be arrested over his actions towards Daisy but, after he is released on bail, he will head to the Rovers Return, intend on ruining Daisy's wedding day, as she prepares to tie the knot with Daniel.

Script writers, members of the story team and make-up department were also on hand to speak to HRH Princess Anne about working on the plotline, which has also seem them collaborate with Katie Piper, who was left with life changing injuries after being the victim of an acid attack in March 2008. Loose Women star Katrie was targeted by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, causing major damage to her face and blindness in one eye.

Commenting on the Royal visit, John histon, Head of ITV in the North, said: “Working with ASTI on this storyline has been invaluable to all of us. HRH's patronage of the charity is clearly of huge importance to both Her Royal Highness and the charity and it was an absolute honour to have them join us at Coronation Street today."

He added: "The visit gave both cast and colleagues the chance to discuss how they have worked together to create and portray such a delicate and important storyline, an opportunity none of us will forget."
