Prince William wears £300 pair of slippers to Top Gun premiere

All eyes were on the Duchess of Cambridge at the premiere of the new Top Gun movie, but Prince William's shoes didn't go unnoticed. The couple resembled Hollywood stars as they mingled with Tom Cruise and the rest of the A List cast at the European premiere in London's Leicester Square.

Kate dazzled in an off the shoulder black and white Roland Mouret dress, but William wasn't to be outdone and made his own special effort.

Fans were quick to point out his £300 shoes and the unusual feature on the front of them. The Crocket & Jones loafers had a silver plane attached in a nod to the fighter jet flown by Cruise's character in the film.

The 39-year-old, who himself trained as a RAF helicopter pilot, teamed up the black loafers with a classic tuxedo.

One person wrote: “William is totally rocking it!! LOVE the DJ and shoes. He's owning the red carpet tonight. Catherine is doing timeless understated glamour. They are SUCH a gorgeous couple.”

Another joked “toe-tally love this! Nice one Prince William!” while another user added “we didn't get a military style jacket but at least we got the shoes."

The Duke talks to Tom Cruise (PA)

Cruise has said he and the Duke "have a lot in common" while on the red carpet. Speaking about his admiration for William, Cruise told the PA news agency: “We have a lot in common. We both love England, and we’re both aviators, we both love flying.”

It has been reported that William has been wearing Arthur Sleep’s Black Cashmere Slippers since 2015 and they have become his go-to shoes for formal events.

“Established in London, Arthur Sleep creates the finest slippers in the world, exclusively handmade in England”, reads the brand’s website.

The plain shoes retail around £395, but the ones with monograms can be up to £550.
