Prince William has been in the public eye pretty much since the moment he was born more than 40 years ago.
All the key milestones in his life - from his first appearance in Princess Diana 's arms on the steps of the hospital where he was born to walking grief-stricken behind his mother's coffin and marrying his wife the Princess of Wales - have played out in the public spotlight.
However, he did enjoy a brief break from prying eyes - and that came during his university days when he first met Kate.
The media agreed that William should be allowed to go about his studies at St Andrews in Scotland without constant attention.
However, even then, there was still a lot of interest surrounding the young prince, who was keen to go under the radar as he continued his studies.
And it was reported that he decided to go by a different name while a student and he picked an extremely normal moniker - Steve.
Although he did officially enrol at the university in the name William Wales, it is believed his classmates used the nickname so he didn't receive any unwanted attention.
There's also a good chance his now wife Kate called him this, as they were close friends at university and lived in the same student accommodation.
When he first started at St Andrews, William studied the history of art but then switched to geography. He graduated in June 2005 in the same ceremony as Kate.
It was attended by the late Queen and Prince Philip as well as his father King Charles and stepmother Queen Camilla.
Now 18 years on, William and Kate have been happily married for 12 years and are the parents to three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
And it seems having nicknames is something that runs in the Royal Family - with William passing a very sweet one on to his daughter Charlotte.
The unlikely moniker was revealed several years ago when William and Kate took Charlotte and their two other children to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.
At that year's show, Kate had designed an incredible 'Back to Nature' garden, which had gushing water features and a fun swing.
In adorable footage, the three children could be seen running around enjoying the creation - and at one point William called out for his daughter.
But instead of calling her Charlotte, he called out for 'Mignonette'. The French word is said to mean "small, sweet, and delicate" or "cute". Older French definitions also show it can mean gentle and kind.
It's rather different from the nickname Kate has previously been known to call her daughter - Lottie.
