Prince Harry said he worries for the fortunes of brother William’s children as they could “end up like him”.
In the current line of succession, Prince William is next in line to the throne and will be sworn in, in the event of the death of his father King Charles.
After William comes his eldest child, Prince George, nine.
However, after him are his two siblings - seven-year-old Princess Charlotte and four-year-old Prince Louis. Their uncle, Prince Harry, said he worries as “at least” one of them will be a spare - like him.
He told The Telegraph: “I know that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare.
“And that hurts, it worries me.”
Despite his concerns for his niece and nephews, he later added that brother William dismissed what he was saying.
Harry added: “He has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility.”
The notion of being a “spare” to the heir is a common theme throughout the Duke of Sussex’s book.
He discussed it during one of his several TV interviews, when he appeared on Good Morning America last week.
The duke made yet another jab at his estranged brother Prince William after branding him his "arch-nemesis" in his memoir.
In the chat, he told GMA host Michael Strahan: "Ultimately, I don't think that we can ever have peace in my family unless the truth is out there."
"You refer to your beloved brother as an arch-nemesis - strong words," Michael said.
However, he then goes on to pointedly remark: "So the heir was jealous of the spare?"
Meanwhile, sources close to the Princess of Wales, who Harry painted as uptight and unwelcoming to his wife Meghan when she joined the royal fold, revealed she was left “baffled” by Harry’s personal attacks, but unruffled because she was “totally immersed” in her work “to take much notice”.
She is said to have “already moved on” from the Prince Harry memoir saga, as she prepared to launch a major campaign to change the future for generations of children.
Princess Kate even “dismissed” the controversy surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s explosive book as she was busy preparing to launch the next stage of her flagship early years work for children, according to royal sources.
