Prince William and Princess Kate broke a royal rule while on a visit to a new hospital this week. The Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out together in public for the first time since the Duke of Sussex published his memoir Spare.
William and Kate looked relaxed as they arrived to officially open the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the home city of The Beatles. William and Kate thanked the staff for their efforts during the winter months, which are routinely a challenging period for the NHS, and met individuals working in mental health support services in the county.
During the visit, staff were overheard saying how "kind" the royals were, the Liverpool Echo reports. And the couple even broke royal protocol on the visit which no doubt made a worker's day.
William and Kate took time to pose for a selfie with healthcare assistant Anne O'Hara. While it may seem like a lovely thing to do, the pair actually broke royal protocol in that brief moment.
Many people were unaware that royals are not allowed to take selfies with adoring fans until Meghan Markle admitted she was not allowed to pose for a photo with a well-wisher shortly after she began her relationship with Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex, in line with royal protocol, told one couple in December 2017: "We're not allowed to do selfies", according to the Mirror. Younger royals, in recent years, have repeatedly engaged more with well-wishers and this is likely to become more common with King Charles now head of the Royal Family, the Express reports.
