Bristol City Council has said it will need to close part of Prince Street Bridge tomorrow (Friday, May 27) so two pieces of heavy machinery can be lifted out of the bridge.
All road traffic will be diverted to Redcliffe Bridge, while pedestrian and cycle access will be maintained. The bridge, which was built in 1879, is a Grade II-listed iron swing bridge across the harbour and the council says the closure is to allow for "urgent" repairs.
A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said: "We urgently need to repair a mechanism that allows Prince Street Bridge to swing open. Tomorrow's work will involve lifting the hemisphere and piston out of the centre press.

"To do this we need to take part of the decking on the cycle path up, so need to move both cyclists and pedestrians over to the road for the day. Once both pieces of kit are safely out, we will put the decking back and reopen the full bridge.
"Thank you for bearing with us while we work to bring this heritage bridge back into full use for our boating community."
The council did not provide timings for the closure but is expected to share updates once the work is complete. Another bridge, Redcliffe Bascule, is set to close for 10 weeks this summer for £3m of repairs.
Another river crossing, Gaol Ferry Bridge connecting Southville to Wapping Wharf, will shut in June for at least six months while contractors repair “corroding and rotting” steel beams.
