Prince of Wales strokes alpacas as he visits community hit by abandoned prison

  • The Prince of Wales has visited Princetown in Devon to launch a new £250,000 community fund to support local projects.
  • The regeneration fund redirects money previously generated by rent from the now-abandoned Dartmoor Prison into local social and economic initiatives.
  • During his tour, Prince William met local residents, schoolchildren, and two alpacas, as well as using a historic letterpress.
  • He visited Princetown Youth Club, which was kept open and repaired thanks to Duchy of Cornwall funding following an earlier private visit.
  • The fund is part of a broader Duchy of Cornwall plan to deploy over £500 million over the next decade for community and environmental investments.
