Prince Louis' hilarious reaction to horse poop at Trooping the Colour as he covers nose

King Charles's historic birthday celebrations got underway on Saturday for Trooping the Colour, to mark the monarch's 74th birthday.

On November 14 each year, King Charles marks his birthday privately, but each year in June he marks his "official" birthday with the military spectacle where the most prestigious regiments in the British Army honour the monarch by parading for the special day.

And stealing the show once more was young Prince Louis, with the five-year-old's facial expressions keeping royal fans amused as around 8,000 spectators watched the birthday parade from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.

The cheeky tot often amuses the public at royal engagements with his hilarious facial expressions and unpredictable cheeky behaviour and his latest face-screw was thanks to the horse waste littered on the Mall.

Louis pulled a face and pinched his nose to help hide the smell of horse poop as he rode in a horse-drawn carriage alongside his siblings, mum Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla.

Hundreds of horses took part in the event understandably leaving a trail of waste behind them. The event featured around 1,500 soldiers in total and hundreds of Guardsmen were lined up on the parade ground waiting to be inspected by King.

But Prince Louis wasn't having any of it as he made his feelings known about the smell.

Crowds cheered as two street sweepers made their way down the road after the procession to clean up the waste left behind.

Prince George was dressed in a suit like his younger brother whilst Princess Charlotte was pictured in a gorgeous red and white dress. The kids eagerly waved to the crowds who had gathered on the Mall, with Louis even tapping his hands along to the music.

Kate Middleton apparently shunned military uniform, despite now being colonel of the Irish Guards after being awarded the title last year and instead wore a green outfit paired with a stunning regimental brooch.

The historic day on Saturday, June 17, marks King Charles being the first monarch in more than 30 years to take part in Trooping the Colour on horseback in what was his inaugural birthday parade.

Charles took the royal salute as Colonel in Chief of the Household Division's seven regiments during the ceremony, staged on Horse Guards Parade, as members of the royal family and 8,000 spectators looked on.

Following the ceremony, the royal family headed back to Buckingham Palace to gather on the balcony to watch an extended military flypast after the display on coronation day had to be scaled down due to bad weather.
