Prince Harry urged to 'show some loyalty' over Netflix's The Crown controversy

Prince Harry has been urged to "show some loyalty to his country" and ditch his deal with Netflix as the latest series date for The Crown is revealed.

Meghan Markle and husband Harry signed a deal with Netflix in 2020 worth a rumoured $100million (£83million) to create original content including documentaries, movies, series and children’s programming.

But now, two years later, a royal author has insisted the Sussexes ought to cut off ties with the production company.

Royal author, Robert Jobson, insisted viewers of The Crown believe the controversial - yet popular - royal drama is "fact".

He has now warned that the fifth series of the drama will cause "untold damage" to the new King and Queen Consort 's reputation.

The royal expert took to social media to urge the Sussexes to "show some loyalty to your country", and questioned how the pair can even carry on with the whopping deal.

He wrote on Twitter : "How can Harry & Meghan carry on with this Netflix deal?

"There are many who believe this fiction is fact. It will cause untold damage to our King and Queen Consort around the world early in his reign.

"Are H & M really that hard up? Come of 'H' show some loyalty to your country."

Other users on the social media site backed Mr Jobson, saying: I'm more worried that they intend to tell one half of the story, in the full knowledge that the other parties cannot and will not tell their side.

"I can't see how that's fair or right."

While another put: "He’s no loyalty to his country."

And a third wrote: "He must stop his book. He must cancel Netflix."

The comments come after it was announced yesterday that The Crown will launch its fifth series on November 9.

However, the Netflix-original historical drama has previously sparked controversy among viewers - with calls for the streaming giant to add a disclaimer that the work is of fiction.

In its latest series, the show will focus on the breakdown of the now-King Charles III's marriage to Princess Diana.

It will see Dominic West star as Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana.

While The Crown was due to end after the fifth series, the show's creator and writer, Peter Morgan, announced that it would be extended to include one more season.

Filming on the sixth series of The Crown was halted following the death of the late Queen and was also suspended on the day of the funeral.

Since the Sussexes signed their lucrative deal with Netflix nearly two years ago after quitting their royal duties, they have still not released any content on the streaming site.

While there are reports of the couple filming an at-home docuseries, a source previously told Page Six that Netflix was getting its "pound of flesh" from Harry and Meghan.

Meanwhile, The Duke of Sussex is currently working on a documentary series called Heart of Invictus, which focuses on his Invictus Games.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Meghan's animated series, Pearl, had been dropped by the streaming giant.

However, Netflix said it is continuing to work with Archewell Productions on a number of projects.

It came after Netflix lost 200,000 users over the first three months of 2022, falling well short of predictions it would add 2.5million subscribers.
