Prince Harry's tell-all memoir will see him use royals as 'collateral damage', says expert

Prince Harry's memoir could see him use his royal relatives as "collateral damage" in his quest for closure, a royal expert has warned.

It has been confirmed that the eagerly-awaited book will be called Spare and will get its worldwide release on January 10 next year.

Publisher Penguin Random House has billed the memoir as a book of "raw, unflinching honesty" - but royal insiders have labelled the choice of title as "confrontational" and "yet another attack on the royal family".

Relations between Harry and his father King Charles and brother Prince William are known to be very rocky of late.

And former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the book will not make for easy reading for the Firm as it will "trample on people" - but has said it could mark a turning point in his bond with his relatives.

She told OK! : "I don’t think Harry’s a vindictive man and I don’t think he would hurt his family unnecessarily or wilfully.

“But I think Harry wants closure and I think [members of the royal family] are going to be the collateral damage in his journey towards that closure.

"I’m afraid people are going to get trampled on by this book. Raw and unflinching aren't words the palace will be happy to hear."

Jennie's comments come after sources said the title of Harry's "nuclear" book, which was revealed last week, was "confrontational".

The source explained: "The very title demonstrates yet another confrontational attack on the family after claiming a desire for privacy.

"Palace lawyers will undoubtedly be on standby in the new year waiting to see what is in it.

"If Harry’s previous allegations across numerous TV interviews are anything to go by, this will be nuclear.

"Regardless of the content, which will no doubt be explosive, there will be little chance of this acting as a vehicle to reconciliation for Harry and Meghan."

It comes as a description for the book, due for release on January 10, from publisher Penguin Random House claims it will take "readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror".

It adds: "As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is his story at last.

"With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."
