Sentebale, co-founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, will host a series of meetings and discussions in Lesotho and Johannesburg in early October. The aim is to collaborate with leaders from Google's charitable arm and other companies and organizations to address the challenges faced by young individuals in the region.
This gathering marks Prince Harry's first visit to Southern Africa since 2019, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to philanthropy in the region in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana. The organization has gained a deep understanding of local youth and their needs through years of work in the area and partnerships with local communities.
Initially focused on supporting children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana, Sentebale has expanded its scope to tackle broader issues impacting youth, such as health, wealth inequality, and climate change. The charity's name, meaning 'forget-me-not' in the Sesotho language, pays tribute to the princes' mothers.
The upcoming session will bring together participants who previously met in Miami for discussions in April. The agenda includes private work sessions, a panel discussion, and a site visit to Lesotho. Sophie Chandauka, Sentebale's Board Chair, highlighted the urgent need for investment in digital skills, education, and job creation to empower economically vulnerable young people in the region.
