Picking Christmas gifts for your loved ones can be a difficult task requiring lots of thought, but Meghan Markle once had Prince Harry in fits of laughter with her close to home present.
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals in early 2020, the couple spent their first Christmas in the US away from the Royal fold. Detailing their stateside holiday season in his memoir Spare, Prince Harry recalled a thoughtful gift Meghan gave him as a nod to his close relationship with the late Queen.
Telling the story, Harry explains Meghan noticed a Christmas tree ornament with a picture of the Queen on it in a local shop and “thought he would like it”. The Duke admits the present went down a treat and 'roared' with laughter after unwrapping the gift.
Showing off his wife's lovely gift, Harry placed the ornament on the tree at Archie's eye level so he could see his great-grandmother. However, this decision meant the decoration didn't last very long as the fascinated toddler soon snatched the ornament off the tree, reports the Mirror.
Unfortunately once the toddler got a hold of the sweet ornament, it soon smashed to pieces and ended up in the bin. Harry writes: “I grabbed a dustpan and swept up the pieces, all the while thinking: This is weird.”
Prince Harry and Meghan shared a stunning family photo with fans as they celebrated Christmas 2020, as they posed in their garden, standing outside a Wendy house. The couple’s two dogs are also in the shot, along with a small tree decorated with a huge red bowl.
Harry also detailed the families' low-key celebrations during an interview with James Corden for the Late Late Show, as he left the comedian speechless with the Queen's present for Archie.
Speaking about the Queen's gift, he said: "My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker. So she sent us a waffle maker for Archie, so breakfast now Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix, in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes.
"He loves it. And now I have waffles for breakfast, bit of yoghurt, bit of jam on top. I don't know if that's the right thing to do. Berries, bit of honey."
Speechless James interrupts, saying: "Sorry you're glossing over the fact that I cannot for the life of me imagine the Queen ordering a waffle maker to be sent to Santa Barbara. I can't get my head around it."
Harry replies: "I don't even know how to comment on that. Archie wakes up in the morning and literally just goes 'waffle?'.
