Prince Harry quits own charity over leadership row

  • The Duke of Sussex has resigned as patron of Sentebale, an African charity he co-founded in 2006 in memory of his mother, Diana.
  • The charity’s co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho has also resigned. It follows a dispute between the charity's board and its chairperson, Dr Sophie Chandauka, leading to the departure of several trustees.
  • The dispute reportedly stemmed from a decision to focus fundraising efforts in Africa. Prince Harry said the relationship between the trustees and Dr Chandauka was “beyond repair”.
  • Dr Chandauka has responded by seeming to accuse Harry of "playing the victim card". She alleged poor governance, weak executive management and an abuse of power at the charity.
  • Sentebale said it has not received official resignations from the princes and described the board restructuring as part of a “transformation agenda”.
