Prince Harry makes return to UK with surprise court appearance amid latest legal row

Prince Harry has arrived at the High Court in London after making a surprise trip to attend a hearing in his most recent legal claim.

The 38-year-old is just one of the seven high-profile individuals who has brought a case against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers over alleged unlawful information-gathering at its titles.

A four-day hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice in London started on Monday, March 24. It will include Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) bid for the claims for misuse of private information, to be dismissed without a trial.

Harry’s appearance in court on Monday was unexpected and is part of the duke’s stated ambition of making it his “life’s work” to change the UK media landscape.

As he arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice this morning, Harry bid waiting photographers and reporters a "good morning" and almost walked into one snapper before he entered the building reports the Mirror.

The Duke and other claimants are suing the publishers over a series of allegations and unlawful activity.

The group allege ANL hired private investigators to bug their homes and cars to gain information. They also claimed that they impersonated individuals to gain access to confidential medical information about them.

ANL was also alleged to have paid individuals to listen in on live telephone calls and record them, access bank accounts and other financial information and that police officers were paid for private information.

These officers are also alleged by the claimants to have had links to private investigators.

Their lawyers said at that time the group have "become aware of compelling and highly distressing evidence that they have been the victims of abhorrent criminal activity and gross breaches of privacy" by ANL, which is also the publisher of The Mail On Sunday and MailOnline.

The publisher has described the allegations as “unsubstantiated and highly defamatory claims, based on no credible evidence”.

It comes amid questions over whether he and wife Meghan Markle will be in the UK in just six weeks time to attend the Coronation of his father King Charles at Westminster Abbey.
